This workshop is focused on the Earth Element, the foundational nurturing force for all the other elements.
The Earth Element is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 Element Cycle – Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal.
In nature Earth is the “bowl” for all the seas, lakes and rivers of the planet. It soaks up the rain to redistribute it to all living organisms. It is the ground base for fires and recycles the ashes to help life flourish again. Trees grow from the earth and, if the Earth Element is healthy, the trees grow strong and vigorously. The Earth embodies all the metal, crystal, and mineral elements that are essential to life. In this way earth is the pivot for all the elements.
When our Earth Element is balanced, we feel calm and mellow. When our Earth Element is out of balance, it can affect us emotionally – we may feel worried, pensive and generally agitated. At these times, it is great to know some simple Earth Element Chi Kung forms to transform the day.
It is not surprising that by making sure the Earth element within us is healthy, we support all the body systems, through our increased ability to digest and absorb foods and nutrients. This leads to better assimilation and transformation of food into internal energy, Qi, which is then used beneficially in different ways throughout the body. The overall effect of this Earth alchemy is an elevated state of clarity & stillness in both mind and body, a harmonious flow of Qi in the body, and an overall sense of deeper peace within.
The organs associated with the Earth element are the stomach, spleen and pancreas. In this workshop, we will explore specific organ and meridian forms that greatly support digestion, and the immune system.
The animal associated with the Earth Element is the monkey; the cheeky monkey is a limber being, that is so balanced and coordinated it can swing from tree to tree with ease. The physical aspects of the body that are associated with the Earth Element are the knees and elbows (i.e. limb coordination) – when our Earth Element is balanced, we walk and flow through life with more ease. In the body the Earth Element is centred at the middle torso encompassing the stomach, spleen and middle-back regions. So, in this workshop we will also do Chi Kung Animal forms to help us feel orientated to our environment and to feel free and limber in our movement.

At the end of the workshop we will put together a video of the moves, so you can continue resourcing yourself at home 🙂

Note: There are a series of 10 standalone workshops covering the 5 elements, dragon chi kung, & internal alchemy. Completion of all ten workshops and associated homestudy lead to the qualification of Elemental Chi Kung Teaching Certification. Or each workshop can be enjoyed standalone. see past event details, or go to www.naturalmovment.info for overview of the workshops.
Note: It is best to spend the 4 days deepening into the resourcing space created to fully reconnect to the chi in and around you. However if you are only able to make 3 days that maybe possible, please contact Denise to discuss.
